A Quake of Reflection

There was a small earthquake in San Diego on Friday and my business had been affected. Fortunately, I have neighbors who were kind enough to notify me. My glass windows got broken and I needed an immediate fix. In my office I handle so many people’s income tax records, social security numbers, and many other confidential data. In addition to this I have very expensive equipment such as two computers, a big printer/copier, a fax machine and a few others and not to mention monetary instruments. I did not have time and the time available to replace the glass windows just yet and so I called to order some glass board-ups. Luckily, the emergency glass service arrived in time as my husband and I needed to leave town for the weekend to visit his mother.

On the way to my mother-in-law’s I began thinking whether my business was well protected overall. I did not expect a small earthquake to do such damage; it is definitely not usual. What if Sandra my neighbor hadn’t noticed the damage right away? I could’ve gotten robbed and people’s personal information would have been at risk of being used for fraudulent activities. I don’t believe my insurance plan covers everything on my business. Perhaps I needed this incident to happen to me so I can open reflect on this and make changes accordingly.

Fortunately during the weekend I was able to have a good time at my in-laws’ because I knew the glass board-ups covering my windows were very well installed and protecting my office. Maybe I will get safety glass when I come back to San Diego tomorrow; that way it will be harder to break during an earthquake or someone trying to break in. Check out the pictures of my office below, it’s like it has Band-Aids!

Window Replacement

It was a beautiful day last Tuesday in San Diego. The weather temperature was at around 75 degrees Fahrenheit, and my neighbors across my house were having a family get-together. Their kids brought out their inflatable pool to swim into their front yard. I decided to come out, bring a chair and sip on a delicious watermelon and peppermint smoothie while I people-watched. Some other kids from the neighborhood were playing softball on the street and all I kept thinking was “Please do not throw a ball towards the kids in the pool”; they were much smaller than them. It was Tommy’s turn to bat and as usually as he does, he hit a strike straight towards my front window. It broke in a thousand pieces, there was no way to repair it; I needed a window replacement.

There was no way I could delay taking care of this but it was a Sunday and I was afraid I was not going to find an immediate solution. As it was my front window that got broken, my house was at risk of getting broken into. I searched for emergency glass repair/replacement in the area and I was able to find a company that offered 24 hour services 7 days a week 365 days a year! “Now that’s true passion” I thought. I couldn’t imagine myself owning a business that never closed. It must take some excellent management skills.

I was able to get my window replacement in no time. Sarah (Tommy’s mom), came to apologize right away and politely offered to cover the expense. What’s funny is that when the incident happened the kids that were playing softball all ran away as if I wouldn’t remember who they were, silly kids! I laughed hard, as I’ve known most of these kids since they were born and know their family pretty well. I couldn’t take a picture of the little menaces but I did take a picture of the kids in the pool. Oh what a sweet summer this is!

A Drunken Incident

A week ago my younger cousin Ivette was visiting from Texas and wanted to stay at my house in San Diego. She grew up in San Diego and had not been back since she graduated High School. She wanted to visit her grandparents and friends. I was out of town on business and one day she got drunk with her ex-boyfriend at the house. An old guy friend of hers heard she was in town and stopped by to visit her. Her ex-boyfriend got jealous and got into a fight with her friend and broke my door. Luckily this happened during the day when I could still call the San Diego Emergency Glass company who also has door repair/replacement services.

I was not home when this incident happened. I’m blessed to have neighbors I can really call friends and who look out for my house when my husband and I aren’t home. Jimmy, the next door neighbor knew my cousin from when we were growing up. We went to the same school with his brother. When he saw Ivette coming out of the house trying to separate her ex-boyfriend and other male friend he immediately called me.

I was very upset. I kept thinking “when will my cousin grow up?!” The guys at San Diego Emergency Glass were very quick to arrive and replace the door before the sun went down and we could possible suffer from another incident (robbery!). I can with all security say that these guys have the best customer service and also provide quality work! I actually like my new door better. Maybe this had to happen so I could stop being too cheap to buy a new door. The old one would squeak because it was swollen from the humidity of several summers.  See my new door below. Have a beautiful rest of your day!

Glass Replacement

It was my nephew’s birthday last April and my husband and I decided to drive down to San Diego to pay him a visit. I usually don’t like to drive all the way down to San Diego even though I usually go to south California about twice a year. There is something about those extra 3 hours that doesn’t sound very appealing but I had never visited my brother’s home and so we thought we’d do something different this year. My sister-in-law had a very important business appointment right before the party so my husband and I stayed with the kids. When I’m around kids I can start acting like one sometimes. We decided to have some fun and start running around the house like maniacs; me on foot, and Tommy on his bike. It was not a good idea (when is it?). Tommy bumped into the glass door that leads to the backyard. We needed a glass replacement soon and a first aid kit.

Luckily, Tommy’s injury wasn’t so bad. He only had a few scratches from the broken glass on his right arm. I was so embarrassed. How could I let this happen? This is the reason why I don’t have kids, ha! I needed to fix this quickly. Karen, my sister-in-law is one of the finest and strongest women I’ve ever known, but she is also kind of a perfectionist. I was afraid she would get very upset, her home looked so intact! I had to think of something quick. I knew she wouldn’t be home for at least two hours. So I went to Google and looked up 24 hour emergency glass services.

I found a company that offered glass replacement services in the area and after answering some short questions about the broken glass they were able to come and replace it for us in no time. My sister-in-law never even knew about it, and everyone promised they wouldn’t tell her. And about Tommy’s scratches, they were so fine that Karen never even noticed them. Phew!
